Tameside Youth Social Action Project is an open-access youth program for young people aged 11-17 in Greater Manchester. Through weekly sessions delivered in a local community centre, young people are able to connect with trusted adults and the wider community while diverting their attention from low-level crimes and anti-social behaviour.
The project is heavily influenced by youth voices, with a core group of young people leading the planning process and steering the direction of the project. The project’s duration is 12 months.
- Empowering connection with the natural world, improving well-being, physical fitness, and mental health through outdoor activities and environmental education.
- Providing a safe space for young people to develop essential life skills: leadership, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, social skills, increasing confidence, and gaining valuable experiences.
- Encouraging environmental responsibility, sustainability, and stewardship in creating a more sustainable world.
We believe in embracing and supporting neurodiversity in our group, which means we welcome young people with undiagnosed and diagnosed neurodiversity. We meet once a week at 4C, a local community centre. The first Wednesday of the month is for trips and activities. We will visit parks, go canoeing, and other adventures!
